Ruff Grouse counts 2013 Minnesota or chicks observed

Has the DNR said anything about grouse counts?

My guess is both will be down due to the prolonged cold, wet spring. Plus, I think we are on the downside of the cycle, anyways

Well seen my first brood of grouse down by Mille lacs lake mom had 8 chicks about 3/4 grown this week. Anybody else seeing anything?

Per the spring 2013 DNR report I read, they recorded 0.9 drums per stop, down 10% from last year. The last peak of the ten year cycle was in 2009. Who knows how successful the nesting season was with the spring we had.

Been seeing a lot of young turkeys in north central Minnesota,no grouse.

I saw a group of 3 grouse on Fall to Newton portage.

Been in the woods every day this last month in north central Minnesota just hiking,not seeing any grouse at all,I think it is going to be a very long season. Also it looks like opener it could be 80 degrees,that is crazy.
