idler pulley help

Recommended Posts

2002 chrysler town and country 3.3 165000 miles. started making a whirring noise when i step on the gas. at idle fine sounded like it is from the belt area loosened the belt. alt spins very freely not rough the single idle pulley did not turn much took it off and feels very grindy could this be the problem. started car with out belt for 15 seconds noise is gone when reving up. so i'm guessing its a pulley of some sort.

All the accessories should turn freely and with little noise.

The alternator pulleys will make some weird noses when they go bad, the power steering pump will start to moan when turning to let you know the power steering reservoir filter is plugged, and the a/c clutch will usually burning when it goes out.

The idler is fairly inexpensive, can't hurt to try there.
