Top 5 baits

I made a similar post in the bass and pike forum. What are the top five baits you fish for bass and top five for pike when you head out in your kayak or canoe? I'm revamping my setup. Just checking my list against others.

I have reduced my list to 3. Buzz baits, tubes and a double spinner. 3 rods with 3 setups, makes it simple.

I suppose it depends on which kind of bass--smallie or largie--I'm fishing. And where...are we talking central MN or BWCA?

Either way, I'll try to answer the question:

1) Soft plastic jerkbait

2) Senko

3) topwater

4) Shad rap

5) ummm....spinnerbait

I usually only have three rigs rigged up when going canoeing, and last Friday they were rigged with a Sexy Dawg, a white/purple spinnerbait, and a weightless Powerworm.

This Friday it could be three different setups.

1. Jointed floating rap- J11

2. Spinner bait.

3. Small rubber spinner or bucktail

4. Jig

5. Rapala J9 shinner blue and silver

It depends on what you're chasing, but I opt for only 2 rods now and packing light (paddle faster, easy to organize). My go to boxes are a double decker of tubes, a box of spinnerbaits, and a box of musky jigs/plastics.

Sad to say it, but I've spent a lot more time in the boat than in the yak, but that roof rack will go on soon here...

I chase crappies with my kayak and my top 5 are (in no particular order)

1. small Jig with Yum 1.5" shad white speckled black

2. small Jig with 2" Bobby Garland Baby Shad - Vegas Color

3. small Jig with Northland Impulse Paddle Bug White

4. small Jig with Northland Impules Paddle Bug Pink

5. small Jig with Bobby Garland Slab Slay'R 2" Black w/Pink Tail

Jigs normally 3/16oz and use color opposite from the plastic I am using.

Sometimes I get a little crazy and fish with a blue/white instead of the standard black/white. I know, I'm out of control.
