858 HD DI questions

So for those of you who have been running these graphs I have a few questions. When you are running your DI screen are you letting your unit auto choose your transducer set up or do I need to go into the beam settings screen and choose what transducer I want to use and the frequency to have it operating under? Are you using your DI enhancement at all? Adjusting your sensitivity or contrast? Also what exactly does switch fire mode mean?

When looking at your standard graph view are you running factory settings or are you adjusting your sensitivity and so on?

To medoesn'tesnt seem like I have a clear full picture of what on the bottom of the lake I am looking at compared to the way it looks on the simulation set up.

Also I have the lakemaster chip installed and also inserted 32 SD card. Should away pointspoints be automatically saving to the SD card or do I need to go into a option menu to set this up? I dont think mine is savinway pointspoints onto the card right now.

Trying to learn how to get performance out of this graph and every time I think I have it all figured out I am left with more questions. So many options on what I can change snd it gets me flustered. I am sure I will add more questions to this the next time I am on the water also.

About the only thing I change is the frequency. The lower frequency has a wider cone angle. Depending on my depth or mood I may switch the frequency up or down manually.

I leave contrast and sensitivity on auto.

Also have messed with the chart speed a bit but haven't really changed it after setting it where I like it.

I don't know about the WP storage. Seems like they are saved to the unit and you would have to manually move them to a card. I have Lowrance and Navionics map cards in each slot and pick the one I like better for the lake I'm on.

If I want to save something, screen shot whatever, mine is saved to the unit then I move it to a blank card when I get home.

Chart speed I use the rule of thumb by checking your speedometer. If I'm at 3mph, I set the speed to 3. Seems to work good. Play with your sensitivity as needed. The harder the bottom--the less sensitive (like 8) the softer the bottom look to go 12. Factory is at 10. As far as I'm aware and have noticed, your way points will save on the SD card, not the LakeMaster. Best thing to do is leave the rods at home and just learn the unit first.

thanks again for the help. I was just searching through the options the other day and I started wondering about the ducer settings on where using the DI mode. Assuming everything automatically switches itself but not sure

You most likely have the option to switch between a few different transducers; for me, i switch from Hi-Def Sidescan to QuadBeam. If you only have 1 transducer, then you leave it on Hi-Def - or whatever your DI transducer is called.

Saving waypoints. 8GB is WAY more than enough.

In your settings, you can turn screencapture to ON, that will save the screencapture as well as your GPS coords as a waypoint and you will be able to view your screenshots whenever you like. I say 8GB is plenty, because after 1,000 screenshots saved on your unit, it will start to slow down. By 1,500 - you unit wants to freeze. I had 1,600 on mine, and i don't think that equated to 3GB. I decided to just wipe my unit free of waypoints and start with a bank SD card this year.

I match chart speed to boat speed as pointed out by a poster above.

Sensivitity i'll run between 8 and 17 depending on conditions.

Sharpness usually on LOW.

455 will work better in minnesota lakes, 800 for really deep water (100'+) though sometimes i'll switch for entertainment.

Switchfire is just a fancy name for 2d sonar. Run in Max mode vs Clear. Adjust sensitivity between 7 and 14 depending on conditions and how much clutter you want on your screen. I usually leave this set to 83/200
