Chequamegon National Forest Paddling/Camping

Recommended Posts

How many guys here have ever been up to the Chequamegon NF for some kayak/canoe fishing? I'm curious if anyone here has any recommendations for an area in the forest to set up camp. I prefer fishing smaller lakes and like to target bass (LM and SM), pike, and musky. This is my first time going up to the forest, so any advice is appreciated.

I've got a new Freedom Hawk Pathfinder kayak arriving Friday, and am excited to put a do some testing if the weather cooperates on Sunday/Monday. If anyone would like to join me for a day or two on the water, let me know.

I've spent a lot of time in that forest...

it's fun. Plenty of little lakes for you to explore in the yak, plus a few rivers.

I sent ya some more 'specific' info over pm, I'm actually in the middle of planning a trip up there too. Heh.

You ever gonna stop buying kayaks? grin

Probably not. It's a freaking sickness man, seriously! Every... single... year.

Slab - Plan your trip for this weekend and lets do some fishing! I'll have you show me you're carp whispering techniques.

You could spend a lifetime up there and still find new spots. Delta, Drummond, the brule river, Iron River, and if you get really adventurous you could Yak the Chequamegon bay and hit up the smallies there. grin

I've fished the Brule. That river is something very special. Ideally, Sunday would have been spent floating the Chippewa for smallmouth and musky. Unfortunately, that isn't going to happen thanks to all of this spring rain we've had lately. But, it's nice to know that there will be water in the streams and river systems this year. I am realizing that there are just too many lakes to choose from up there. How's a guy supposed to pick just one or two?!?

I still haven't decided where to camp, but I think I'm just going to wing it.

On the plus side, I just got done unwrapping a brand new Freedom Hawk Pathfinder. Going to take it out on it's maiden voyage in a few hours. Hopefully I can get some fish mojo in it before heading north.
