Mushrooms in Ely area

I was wondering if anyone finds any morels around the ely area? Not looking for specifics here. I looked in areas that I have found them in the other parts of the state last spring, but I found none. I heard they grow in swamps around here, can anyone confirm this?

Yes, they do grow here. Black morels. Swampy areas are one place to find them.

Check along the edges of ash swamps. I have been out a few times and not seen any yet. I think we need some warm days and they will be up! I have been finding fiddleheads.

There will be some up by the weekend, but I think it won't start to take off until next week. The rain and coming warm temps will get things going.

Ground temps around Hibbing were still low, 51 or so. You need a couple of warm days to get it up in that 54-55 degree range I would guess. Next week is probably correct on Foss-man's end...

I find them in ash swamps around Finn Bay. Look for an area with pools of standing water and you'll find them near the ash roots on the dry humps of ground. Hard to find the first one, but once you find one, you'll find more!
