bklimek
I'm trying to install the LSS ducer to my Ranger. I've done a ton of research and asked numerous people but am looking for more advice. My question is where is the best place to put the LSS ducer? See attached picture. Lowrance says it needs to be within a foot of the 2D ducer. In the picture you can see where I have my 2D ducer installed. I really don't want to move that unless you can strongly convince me otherwise. So do I put it in location #1? Location #2? or Location #3? My preference is to flush mount it on the bottom step in location #2. Will this cause any issues (overlay data, interference, quality, etc.) with where the 2D is currently installed?
Cecil
I screwed mine right to spot #2 a couple weeks ago on my ranger. Works great! Shouldnt be any issue
Hoey
I have the same make boat and the same ducer, just bought it. I have same questions and concerns. I am paying the dealer to install. I can not wait to see where they put it.
Cecil
Pretty easy to do guys. Takes 10 minutes to install. PM me if you have questions about it
PerchJerker
The only reason to have the LSS transducer within a foot of your conventional sonar transducer is for the downscan overlay feature .... which is something I never use anyway. I don't find it very helpful. Pretty sure Doc Sampson in his classes and videos also says he doesn't see a benefit to the downscan overlay feature.I have a Ranger also. On my boat the skimmer transducer is outside of the right-hand bunk, where the trailer won't damage it, and the LSS-2 transducer is to the left of the livewell intake screens, and raised up a bit so the bunk won't damage it.If you go with location 3 in your photo, make sure the LSS won't interfer with the center roller or the transom saver, or the bunks. That would be the best location for the mounting bracket as long as the other items aren't in the way. If your step is long enough for the LSS transducer you could mount it there, that is a nice clean installation.
Cecil
Plenty of room on the step...
rmkod
I installed a LSS2 on my Ranger 185 last week. I just drilled it flush mount on the step. I am using the existing 2d in hull transducer for the 2d. There was plenty of room on the step, it was a pretty easy install except for running the wires through the boat. I have yet to test out how it works.
