First Fawn of the year!

Recommended Posts

About a 1/4 mile from my house today, there are 4 deer feeding on a small alfalfa field...when I come by they are all looking back, away from me, into a grove of oaks...I stopped to check them out and here comes a wobbley legged, spotted fawn lookin' for mom!

Hey fox, can one now get within a week of when the doe was bred, I'm guessing not but would be interesting even to have a little + or - as to when mama got well ah, ya know. Really cool fox, I hope the little fella can survive this cold snap/wet/rain/snow or wherever you may be in MN.

average gestation is approximately 6 and a half months (200 days)....This fawn was quite shaky on it's legs so if we "assume" it was born today, (may 1st)....that would put conception on or about October 12th...Pretty early as far as averages go, but probably not that uncommon...It is the earliest fawn I, personaly, have seen up here in NW MN ever...

Hope this cold front front doesn't claim any fawn victims. Have heard of a few already this year.

The deer will be fine. Too many deer in this state anyway.

1000s of fawns never make it pass their first week. A few more deaths cause of cold weather is insignificant.
