Sap Sucker

Finally hit the suet when I was here.

That's a sapsucker? I would have said a downy woodpecker. But I am certainly not an expert and don't know if I have ever seen an actual sapsucker. I do see a bunch of holes in some of my pine trees, in a nice grid.

yepper, yellow bellied sapsucker. Have a pair again hanging around. I'll try get a better shot if the sun ever comes out. Woodpeckers love my trees.

They are raising the family above the campfire pit. Finally spotted the hole being used. Had to go 2000 ISO on this shot at the suet today. Gonna try get some video. Really funny when they wiggle into it.

Up pretty high but will get a pic when the sun comes out. Sat out there a couple times and waited but no activity when I was there with the camera. soon Ebass... soon...

I have faith in you EG. Never saw a lived in wood pecker house. I saw one of those male scarlet tangers again.

We also have a red belly family in a tree house and nuthatches in another.

Here is mr Red Bellied from a couple weeks ago. (in a different thread) This tree is about 20 feet from the sap sucker tree.

dark out there and hard to figure the settings but got a couple pics for starters. Hopefully better ones soon.

Swaeet! Amazing they can fit in there. Cripes - I wonder how long it took them to peck out that hole into a house? I thought they would make a home in a dead tree as it would be easier to make a hold, but I'm mistaken.

Great pics! I guess I need to pay closer attention to my wood peckers to make sure that is what they are.

Yes it is. We have a bunch of willows and the woodpeckers love them for homes.
