Trouble code

Recommended Posts

My wifes car. 06 Malibu, 3500 engine.

The code it's giving is P0128, T-stat coolant below temp. However, the temp gauge is reading normal.

Is this weird or am I on crack?

Don't know the specifics of that car but it's not unheard of for there to be separate temp sensors for the gauge and the engine ecm. This is the way it is on my Camaro. Gauge read fine but engine was seeing constant -39 degrees. Replaced the the temp sensor for the engine ecm and all was right again.

It comes on for a while, goes away for a while, comes back.

She first told me aboot it 2 weeks ago. Couple days later she told me it was off. Couple days later she told me it was on again.

I would have looked into it sooner but I've been a little busy and didn't have much time for car fixin.
