Benny
I am getting puppy finialy after battling the wife for two weeks. Now I need to start getting my training aids , and see there are a ton of collars on the market.I mainly waterfowl hunt but some upland as well, so water proof ,at least 1/2 mile range and prefer one with adjustable settings.I don't intend to buzz the dog every time it makes a mistake but just when it decides to go do it's own thing.I would like to here what collars you use and why you chose it.Benny
LABS4ME
Tri-tronics! Tried and true. Also buy the tri-tonics book written by Jim and Phyliss Dobbs. It will give you some great insight as to how to train with the collar.Good luck!Ken
duckbuster
It seems most common e-collars used are the Tri-Tronics or the Dogtra. I don't think you will go wrong with either choice. Just try and figure out how or in what capacity you are going to use it and make your decision based on that.GOOD LUCK & BE CAREFUL!!!!!!
Benny
I want to reasure the people who will read the above post and scream at me.I absulutlty will not be zapping the dog for everything to train it.I plan on following the Richard Wolters method , but just want a collar to reinforce the cammand "STOP""SIT"!!! I don't belive it takes a collar to train a dog but there will be times when the dog will push the envolope to see if it can get away with some thing. If that time is when it decides to chase a missed duck across a road way, I will then let it know I can touch him/her from the blind.Tri Tronics is the one I have been looking at the most, just want to make sure there isn't any other collar that would be a better deal for my intended use.Tri Tronics has one model that has a variable stimuli setting, that's what I want.Benny
FISHER ED
Hey there Benny. How did the strips work for your Otter? As for collars, I run a DT Systems with my Lab. Never a problem and they have great service and nice warranty. DT's are pretty much the same as a Dogtra. Drop me a e-mail sometime and I can give you a lead on how to save some $ on some collars. Have a good one.Ed
computergeek
Benny,I use an Innotek collar with my dog. The biggest thing that I would recommend is the tone feature on the unit. I trained using the tone followed one second by the stimulation and now I don't even shock anymore. When we are training or hunting all I have to do it tone and she corrects immediately. I also hate the thought of shocking a dog because I have seen it abused several times.
