Dash lights dim when break is applied?

Recommended Posts

I have a 2002 chev silverado 2500 and everytime i press the breaks the dash lights dim. Has anyone else ever had this problem? Anyone know of any possible causes? Is it a big issue? Thanks in advance for any info!

Or just a bad ground which should make the tai lights do some crazy things.

Years ago we would see for rangers that would stall when you hit the brake pedal. I remember it bing a ground issue but I don't remember which one. Seems like it was around the drivers side fender for some reason.

Well a lil more info, the dash lights dont always dim when i hit the breaks. somethimes they do sometimes they dont. also, when i have the headlights on the break light on the top of the back of the cab stays on all the time and the right tail light is alot brighter then the left and they kinda get brighter when i press the breaks. also when i turn on the headlights my dash lights dim.

When you say "the right tail light is a lot brighter than the left" does it look like the left is normal and the right is extra bright or that the right is normal and the left is dimmer than normal? It sounds to me like there is either a bad ground or possibly a shorted filament in one of the rear brake light bulbs causing the current to back feed through the tail light circuit.

I'd also check for a corroded trailer light connector if you have one. This time of year is very hard on connectors and wiring.
