Can't save to desktop...

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I've tried googling this problem to no avail, so I'll ask it here:

I am no longer able to save Word or .pdf documents (or anything, for that matter) to my desktop (or to my "Recent Places" folder). When I go to "Save as," the desktop icon doesn't show up. Any idea where it went?

I've been using this computer for work purposes for years now, and I've never had this problem....Help!

If you just click the "up one level" icon (folder with an up arrow) a bunch you wind up back at the desktop.

Also the desktop is the perfect place to temporarily save files you know you are going to delete like an hour later.

The default storage location is always set to the users profile unless it's changed to point somewhere else.

If you save a document/file under your Libraries>Documents it is defaulted to C:\users\%username%\my documents and that saved document/file does not show up in the public documents or anywhere else with default settings.

I save as little as possible on my desktop. Get's too cluttered. Some of the guys I work with have so many folder and file shortcuts on their desktop I am totally amazed they can find anything. Boggles the mind.
