gurkster
Back in the day that is all we fished out of, and they worked great. I do think that you always want a bigger house at times, but don't really NEED a bigger one. For $200 I would go for it. Worst case is you sell it for $150 - $200 yourself, so not a huge risk IMO. Tomcat41
Saw a 4x8 couple years ago with one side that kicked out. Once kicked out another section flipped down to the ice with canvas covering the sides. When closed up, there were 1/4x20 bolts that would tighten the kickout wall to the two ends to stiffen it up. Made a lot of room to drill and fish right over the ice while sitting on a floor. He alos had holes in the floor when it was too windy or you didn't want to kick it out. 20lbSloughShark
YES, your couch idea helped me figure out how to make my bunks. I have 4 holes, one under the bunk so the bottom one has to flip up. If I make the bottom one flip up, and the top one flip down, I have the option of having a couch, an open floor, or simply bunk beds. The supports of the top bunk will simply connect to the bottom bunk, so both will have to be set up to use the top one. I think I have everything figured out now. C10
Holes close to the wall can be difficult to access with an auger. I would put the holes off the wall about 6" especially in the corners.
20lbSloughShark
I was recently thinking of building this, and thinking how I don't have $400 to drop on quality wood and parts. I decided to take the scenic route on the way home from work to check out the lakes, and on the second corner I saw it, a perfect little fish house. I checked it out, and it looked bad, but the wood was in good condition, and it was plenty big, even if its a 4x8. I called him, and the price was $150, but I only had $75 cash; he took it. It is very light, the guy said he could pull it by hand with the rope. I painted it, it has another coat now, and it is ready to go. If I can figure out how to take a panoramic picture, I'll show the inside.
motley man
I have fished out of a 4X8 for over 40 years and the ease of loading on my trailers over the years is great. I have a boat winch mounted on the trailer tongue and just winch it on. 4 rattle reels with one end a spear hole with cover if I'm not spearing. Small wall mount heater that works great. If you are fishing alone most of the time they work great. GOOD LUCK !
