My brother and I have always wanted to hunt turkeys but never really had the chance mainly because we don't know where to go. So we decided that we'll just try it out this year in the spring. Any help about turkey scouting and if there are any particular areas that would be good to start off would be awesome. I live in Saint Paul and any area within two hours of the Twin Cities would be an option. Thanks for the help.

Wow, that's a tough one. Hunting around the cities without any private land is going to be difficult. You can certainly look on the DNR HSOforum for public hunting areas. Most will hold birds at times. Luckily, as the season gets closer it's easy to tell. Just get there at daybreak and listen.

Did you draw a tag? If you have we might be able to point you towards a area in your zone for some public land.

Doesn't need to draw a tag. They can buy over the counter for the four later time slots.

SE MN has a fair amount of public land in Houston County. Hunting pressure is high down there though and numbers are not what they used to be. Closer to the twin cities will be tough, pressure gets higher as you get closer to larger cities. If you want to do a fun adventure you could drive out to the Black Hills in SD, many miles of public land to chase turkeys on.
