Tour. Pro 175
Our early goose season opens sat. morning, I'll be hunting the Mississippi. I'm excited to be able to hunt water this year. I was wondering, given the opportunity to hunt water in most of the state this year how many of you will take advantage of this opportunity or will you be hunting fields.Good Hunting! Mark Christianson
I will have field dekes out, and goose floaters on the water. I will be sitting with the best of both worlds!!Parking my butt in the weeds, right on the shoreline.
honker23
I like the combo approach. I think the water will produce well, except for the 2 sweet corn fields in the county where there will be a slaughter. With hunters all over the patterns will get messed up in hurry, should make it interesting.God luck to all.
Finlander
Hunt the fields in the morning, then hunt the water when they return from feeding.Just bring all of your equipment so you don't limit yourself to one kind of hunting.
metrojoe
It's hard to beat a freshly cut corn field.
Guest
I've been hunting water during early goose season for years, where permitted. More often water out produces because this early season is usually warm, as many of my openers the temps are in the 80-90's!Geese love water when it's warm. Fields are mighty hot and dry right now. I suspected to see the geese hit the fields hard right about now, and I still have not seen it! I found all the geese so far on the water. That's where I will be! Good luck to all! BLACKJACK
Any concerns that hunting them over water will drive them right out of the country? Like over to SoDak? I've heard some people say that this hunting them over water isn't good, if they don't have a refuge, they'll fly until they find one, that people may get a good shoot the first few days, then the geese are wised up and gone. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against water hunting, I have some ponds, and if I see some geese on them I'll be after them, just want to hear people thoughts.
