NAvionics on Ipad

My uncle downloaded the Navionics map app for his ipad but I've tried and tried but cannot get the current position to show up. He uses a mobile hotspot (Verizon). I've checked every setting I can think of in the app and in the "Settings" on his ipad. Nothing seems to work. Has anyone else had this problem and how did you fix it?

I don't think iPads have GPS, they utilize wifi hot spots to triangulate your position. I'm not sure how that would work out. I think you can connect them to an IPhone to utilize the phones GPS.

I'm not sure which one he has, I think the 3G, no cellular.

I iPad 2 with 3G has GPS, and Navionics works great. I just did a Google, and the Wifi-only model does not have GPS, which I was unaware of.

Ipad with 3G (internet standalone compatible w. GPS)

Ipad with WIFI (will only work with a net connection and has no GPS)

Depending on what you have, which i suspect is the WIFI version since you are using it with a phone, will not work for your needs.

Correct. He needs an iPad with a cellular 3G, or 4g connection. Does he have a smart phone? He can buy the app for the phone and everything he marks on his iPad will show on his phone and visa versa.

No he's still got a flip phone, I'm amazed he even has an ipad. I have an iphone though, is there a way to link the ipad to my iphone?

The only way you can per say "link" the ipad to the iphone is by setting up both devices using the same apple ID, even then I don't think you can truly achieve what you want due to limited GPS capabilities from the WIFI version.
