BuckSutherland
I have one whitefish. I wish I had a few more for the smoker. How can I prepare this thing. I currently have the throat slit, entrails out, with the skin/scales and head on.Smoking and pickling are out.
Xplorer
Was it frozen? If not and its fresh, you can deep fry it, bake it or broil it and it will be delicious!! Fresh whities are awesome eating, but i have found that frozen or even on day old ones the meat starts to get mushy fairly quickly. Then smoking is the best option. Another option would be to do a fish boil with it, along with some corn and baby red's and an onion. Look up lake superior whitefish dot com for the door county fish boil recipe. You can adapt to the amount of whtefish you have.Enjoy

BuckSutherland
I just filleted the whitefish and it was full of disgusting tape worms or something. I am really bummed out. I wanted to try it in a bad way. The meat was still pretty firm other than those giant slimy worms. Glad I didnt get a bunch and go through the trouble of smoking them. Scott M
If you removed the parasites and cooked everything you wouldn't have a problem. Too much of a mental block I suppose.
lakeshoremunster
I must be pretty lucky in the worm dept. I have only ran across this once and it was in a catfish, then again I didnt start filleting fish until a few years ago. So I could have been filling up on worms and not knowing it.But whitefish are great fried, baked and smoked.
