givetoget
Recently bought a new PC, HP Pavillion with a Gateway monitor. In the cords that came with it there was a DVI and a VGA cable. What is the difference, does it matter wich one I use. In the set up booklet it does not really say use one or the other or both. Could someone be so kind as to help out a not so PC savoy person out. Also one other ? why would my ponter go off screen to the right and bottom but stay visible at top and left. I cant find a way to adj. that. Help there would be much appreciated. Thanks
Whoaru99
Myself, I use DVI because on very rare occasion I play a Blu Ray disk on my computer and to get the full HD resolution (because of HDCP - copy protection) you need to have a digital connection like DVI or HDMI.The pointer thing sounds like either you have something about multiple monitors set up or the display size isn't matching your screen size. Somewhere in the information for your monitor it should give the display size, something like 1920x1080 (not necessarily those numbers, but like that). Make sure the settings in display properties matches whatever the monitor spec is..., at least for getting this squared away.
upnorth
DVI would be the better choice if both the monitor and video card will work with.
masoct3
VGA - Only if that is your only inputDVI - Good HDMI - Best
Whoaru99
FWIW, as far as video goes DVI and HDMI are the same. Different connectors but same signal.
givetoget
Thanks for the replies all. These user guides are slim on any detailed info. They must be trying to save paper. LOL (or maybe I dont know what half the stuff means) Thanks Again
