Use Big Buddy to Fill Propane tank?

merkman

Question

I had a 25% full 1 pounder and a full 1 pounder this morning.

Put both on my Big Buddy... a while later the big buddy went out.

Both tanks were empty.

So the question is does the big buddy empty one tank at a time or do both drain down at the same time (ie are there check valves in the system)

If the answer is no; you would think you could hook an empty 1 pounder to one side of the big buddy and a 20 lber to the other.. the pressure would equalize and you would have a full 1 pounder after a little while.

Not sure if that is how it works or not... if there are check valves in line then it wouldn't work that way.

Thoughts?

I think propane (LP- liquid petroleum) is stored in the cylinders in the form of liquid and filled that way. It boils off as the gas is drawn down. I don't think that the liquid will get to the empty cylinder from the full one under normal circumstances.

Not sure either, I thought it only used from both tanks if you had it on the warmest settings? and if you're hooked up to a big tank it should run all three settings with no need for a pounder... I don't believe you will fill a pounder if you re hooked up to both a big tank and cylinder... Did you have on high ?

No it should have some kind of check valve system in it. Think about it, if you had only one tank attached, and there were no check valves, gas would be spewing out the side without the tank. Huge safety hazard.

And Del is correct about propane being stored as a liquid. It should never transfer to the heater in a liquid form under normal conditions.

That makes good logical sense....

The one pounder would be filled with gas but not liquid...

Makes sense.

Thanks!!!
