Best handheld GPS? is there such a thing?

my wife has a garmin oregon 450t. she is a geocacher and it is set up for that. i have messed around with it and it is a very capable unit. i looked at the maps available for that unit, looks to me to be the same as a lakemaster chip. same lakes with 1 foot contours. for a $100, you can download direct from garmin.com to the unit, or get a micro sd card. i don't ice fish until i can use a atv or snowmobile, and have an old lowrance x15 with a 7inch screen. that's 2 inches better than a 5 inch screen

Once you find a few brands you want to look at. Go on the web and look at reviews of each of them. It's a good way to look at the short comings of each as you start hearing the same issues from a lot of people about the same brand.

I bought a used Lowrance H20 form my neigbor for $40 so now I have a backup if my takes a dump.

I haven't cheked the prices but I am guessing you should be able to get used raplcement H20 for pretty cheap these days.

I often use Amazon to get some reviews on a product I have questions about, obviously there are some people that just can't be satisfied but normally you can wade thru the B.S. and get the general idea if the product is worth it or not. If a product is a POS, it shows pretty fast.
