ND4LIFE
I was getting my rods and tackle out to make sure everything is good to go for the season (assuming we get some ice!). A few of my jigging rods have superlines (either Fireline or Nanofil) and some have mono (deadstick/bobber rods). I've been using size #1 duolock style snaps tied directly to the line. I have used snap-swivels but I think they add to much bulk and didn't need the swivel anyways. After watching some lures on the camera (especially jigging raps or darters) they tend to keep spining after I stop jigging. I was thinking about going back to adding a swivel. This time instead of using snap-swivels I would tie a small swivel between an 18" leader and the main line then connect a small duolock to the leader. I ordered some size 0 and 00 duolocks to see if I could downsize this setup even more (assuming they aren't too small where they become frustrating). I'm wondering if anyone else used this style setup and if you are using florocarbon/mono for a leader if you are using a superline as your spooled line. Thanks
Esox_Magnum
I use quik snaps for my spoons and raps, everything else gets tied direct...
PerchJerker
I use little to no "terminal tackle" on my ice fishing setups. I tie all my baits directly to the line, no snaps or clips. And I don't use a swivel between the main line and the leader, I tie them together with back-to-back uni knots. Clean and simple is what I like for ice fishing ..... hydro
I have switched to using the “superlines” on my ice rigs because I like the lack of stretch, small diameter, and supple lay. I use a fluorocarbon leader and tie the lines together using a modified blood knot (like the Uni-knot), then superglue to set the knot coils. That gives a strong and very small knot.I like use a duolock snap to the lure for general purpose fishing, or if using a lure like a jigging Rapala, I will use a swivel and another short leader to reduce line twist. I have not noticed the snap reducing the amount of fish that I catch when compared to those around me.
PurpleFloyd
What is the advantage of tying direct vs using a small snap or clip?
