Ice rod cases - Which one to get?

I have the same case at home I bought from FF. I just don't want to break down the reel handle every time. Maybe I should. Mine cost 26.50. Good price for a good case.

I didnt think it was that much of a hassle to break down the reel handles as on an outing you generally dont use all the rods. Depending on the type of fishing you do outfit yourself accordingly to the situation. Bulkyness will weigh you down if you walking distances to your spot.

Something like these rod holders may work if trimmed down in size, or just using PVC pipe and trim to the size to fit the shorter handle rods so that they are able to seat onto the foam grooves from the Deluxe Ice Innovations rod case. Shouldnt be too difficult to get creative with some PVC piping to try to make all this work.

These are two shotgun cases made by Plano that I picked up at Joe's for $25 a piece. I can easily fit the 4 setups I have in each case, and I bet you could fit 6 with the right rods and organization system. They are 47 inches. They also are very light-weight so for people who already have heavy sleds and gear to pull, they won't bog you down.

the thing that amazes me about this thread is the fact that you guys assume your gonna need to beat the dump out of your gear. I have one of the blue HT glacier bay rod bags, its supposed to hold four rods in the center, and has two pouches on the outside the size of tip ups. its 5 years old.

I put 6 32" rods, 2 25" rods,and 2 24" rods in the center pouch, and then 4 28" rods in the side pouches along with 7 rose creek box's, a clam box, and some plastics.

I HAVE NEVER BROKEN A ROD......had a zipper stuck to the ice, torn the bag, or had anything happen to it. I fish 3-4 days a week out of a porty and beat the dump out of my gear. Ive sat on it (im a big guy), dropped it from the truck, lost it on my way across the lake, and stepped on it. I use either the blue rod slicks or golf club tubes for keeping tangles to a minimum but other than that I just toss em in the bag.

If I remember when I get home from work tonight I will snap some pictures.

On a side note, I do use fly reels pretty much exclusively so I get a little extra room from that.

It's not so much that I feel I need a case that can get the snot beat out of it but more that I want to take extra precaution to protect a somewhat sizable investment. I'm looking at my otter box now and there is almost $600 worth of rods (not including reel price) sitting in that box. Even if I had to spend $200 for a case it would be a wise investment IMO. I also take a couple extra minutes every time I close that box to make sure all of the rods are sitting straight and flat.

I just purchased an otter rod box after seeing my buddies use them for a couple years. I have been using a takedown gun case, and this case is the best case that I have used or even seen. It is lightweight enough and protects my rods very well.

Plus one on that,,,pretty tough to beat the Otter Box.
