Big Dave2
So many people who have opinions on zone 3 APRs base their stance on what they see on the other part of the state. It's not even close. If you put any amount of time in the field in zone 3 APRs are not going to stand in the way of filling your freezer. I know that's probably not the case elsewhere and I'm not going to pretend I know what hunting is like elsewhere. Then you probably shouldn't pretend to know what hunting is like on EVERY piece of land in zone 3 because you obviously do not.
james_walleye
You can't let 10 pointers walk if they get shot at 1.5 years of age. You have to let them get to 10 points before a 10 pointer can breed. And when you get a higher percentage of 10 pointers in the herd....yes some will get shot.....but far more will get to breed than if they never get the chance to get to that age. And how can you compare musky fishing. You don't have the option to catch and release a 6 pointer so he can grow to maturity. It's an apples and oranges comparison. Big Dave2
How on earth do you quote that post and turn it into me being someone who measures my success by bragging about my kills to other hunters??? Are you kidding? What other reason would there be to wanting large antlered deer so badly that you want to change regulations? Are you telling me that if you shot a large beamed 14 point deer you would just go home, butcher it and tell no one? I highly doubt it.
james_walleye
No you see but there is a thing called a network of friends. Let's see....I hunt Rochester....Plainview.....Chatfield...I have friends that hunt Stewartville....Rushford....Mabel.....Lanesboro.....Winona. You know what we all have in common? We all could have filled our freezer multiple times. But I'm sure its just a case of us being lucky. Ya I'm sure of it......

It's an apples and oranges comparison. You contradict yourself. Catch and release is exactly what you want the rest of us to do if we see what I would consider a quality 4 point buck. james_walleye
Well Dave I haven't killed a buck this year and I consider it a very satisfying season. Deer up the ting Yang. My 8 year old sitting next to me when I harvested a doe. I mean do you get that? How many times do I have to post this in this thread alone before you understand that shooting a big buck doesn't make or break some of our seasons? If you shot a large beamed 14 pointer would YOU show no one and just go home and butcher it? I highly doubt it.
james_walleye
You said you hunted opening weekend which obviously isn't enough to make a judgement. I hunted opening weekend and that weekend wasn't good for me. If you chose to only spend 2 days hunting zone 3.....then you limited your chance of harvesting a deer more than APRs ever could. Good, then we should be in agreement that APRs can go away.
james_walleye
If it does go away I will live Dave. I'll continue doing what I've done for 20 years. And next year you will come to zone 3 for 2 days and not shoot a deer and you will have no APRs to blame.
