OnAFly
I used to make the sliced stuff before I got one of those jerky gun as a gift. Never again. That jerky gun cuts the time by 2/3 and makes better jerky I think.

eyeguy 54
lol, shes a good woman. The deer and fish and whatever else get processed in the same spot. :>) I actually prefer the sliced also. I made 4 batches of sliced already. This is the first batch of ground this week. Had to pop a pic cuz the long strip looked cool. 10-12 jerkys in that piece. I'd make more sliced but can't get enough from a deer to supply my snack times so I do ground also from trimmings. :>) Hi Mountain cure is very easy to use be it sliced or ground. 4 pounds of meat will fill 7 trays on my dehydrator. About 75-80 Jerkys. :>)
eyeguy 54
These go very well with a nice Pinot Noir or a Cab... :>)
DonBo
Had a dehydrator just like that and loved to use it for jerky. Sadly it died last year, so my smoker is getting tested for the job now. So far it's been a good trade-off.
eyeguy 54
I used to use the smoker for jerky but I prefer the dehydrator big time. If this one ever goes to pot I'll grab another one. Probably 10 years or so on this one. American Harvestor. Had a Mr Coffee before this and it was terrible. Slices take about 5 hours and strips a little longer. eyeguy 54
Slicers and grinders and smokers and dryers unite! Jerky.... it' what's for breakfast! :>)
hockeybc69
I have actually started smoking my jerky for an hour or so then onto the dehydrator.Thats speaking of whole meat jerky. Could do it with ground burger, but may have to wait a bit longer for the strips to firm up so they dont fall apart in the transfer process.I couldnt live without my dehydrator when it comes to jerky making. eyeguy 54
I just use the hickory pack if I want smokey and the mesquite if i want smokier. I'd go crazy putting these on the smoker first. Oops, too late, the family thinks I am crazy already. But they love the jerky :>)
eyeguy 54
Smoked some eggs today with cherry and for fun threw a couple of the jerkys on with them. Interesting. Changed the taste just a little bit. Still very good. :>)
