I’m a state trapper, that’s involve some classes and working very closely with the conservation officer and wildlife manager in your region. I’m not sure how it works now but I had to be nominated by a conservation officer to even get my foot in the door.

I am also a township trapper. Now that gets interesting. First you need to have the work that most townships put out on bid for yearly contracts. To be able to bid for this you will need a massive insurance policy or umbrella to cover the what if situations. Of course you are trapping around houses, pets and people as that is where the do damage that is considered a problem. The what if can turn ugly quick. Then you will need to get with your conservation officer to make sure you have all the permits to trap out of season. This also comes with a set of special rules. Of course you have to present all the catches, generate monthly billing statements for each job and then go to the town board meeting to verify what was done and why. It is a lot of jumping around and paper work but if you like to trap You will not make much money but it is not such a bad job. All the furs you collect are worthless as this occurs when furs are unprimed; plus beaver in 90 degrees only have hours before they get stinky. Speaking of stinky be ready to deal with a TON of skunks.
