Door locks and driver window aren't working.

Recommended Posts

2005 Colorado, 5 cylinder, 4 door, 4wd. I noticed yesterday the door locks aren't working, along with the drivers window. Neither the key fob or arm rest buttons work. Everything else seems to work fine from the drivers door, including the three other windows and power mirrors. The passenger door lock button doesn't work either. Checked a few of the fuses that I thought it may be and they looked good. I also found a black walnut next to the battery when I popped the hood so it could be the wiring got chewed (crossing my fingers it didn't).

I have yet to dig into it, just wondering if there is a common issue to look at first.

Yeah, I suppose I will be pulling the fuse block apart first just to be sure. Thanks.

It looks like I also forgot to mention that when I press the button on my key fob the lights flash and horn honks like normal. If that helps any.

Well after taking the fuse box apart and finding no issues, I inspected all the wires going to the door and no problems. Also did a continuity and voltage test from the fuse to door switch plug and had no issues.

So I did some more research and come to find this is a pretty common problem with these trucks. Some say to disconnect the battery for an hour to reset the computer, already tried that, didn't work. Some say the fuse needs to be reseated/changed; didn't help. Some said when the battery starts going bad that is one of the common issues that pops up; since I have noticed the battery had gotten pretty weak when the temp dropped I decided to replace it, didn't help my issue. Some say the main window/lock switch has gone bad; took it apart, didn't find any noticable electrical issues, but did find some dried water spotting in a couple spots, found a new one on Ehay for $65, will try it when it arrives.

Hold up on the new computer Harvey. And sorry I forgot to update this thread. But shortly after receiving the delivery confirmation text that the switches were at my doorstep, I jumped in my truck to run home and install them. And guess what? Everything WORKED! Haven't replaced the switches yet, they are still sitting on my workbench. It took a couple warm days for it to fix itself, but it is still going strong. I will hold onto the switch assembly for a while just in case it does happen again, so I can quickly change it out to narrow down my problem.
