Anyone familiar with Wisconsin hunting rules?

Long story short, I didn't get the opportunity to hunt much this year in Minnesota. I have a friend with some private property near Cable WI in Northern WI he is allowing me to bow hunt. I have been to every Gander Mountain and Fleet Farm in my area and no one has a regulations book. I have looked online and see you can buy a same day license. I'm just not clear on what I can buy and where they sell them? I assume gas stations, I hope so anyway because im really not going through any big towns on the way. Does anyone know what a license gets me? I believe it is area 13. If I buy a lisence is it good for both buck and doe or do I need to buy 2? Also, anyone familiar with the Cable area? This weekend will be more of a scouting mission but I still want to get some time in the stand with my bow in hand.

Wisconsin DNR has the regs online.

$165 for a non-resident license. You get 3 tags with that, but can only use each in certain zones. Cable WI appears to be well within the "Regular Unit" areas. IN those areas you can use 2 of the tags given to you. One for a buck, and a management tag for a doe. There is a third tag which I believe is for a doe in a herd control zone only.

Be aware that you also receive a back tag. It is roughly 4" x 10" and bright green with your hunter ID number printed on it. You need to have this pinned to your back while out hunting. I think next year this will not be required anymore, but for now you still need it.

I am not sure if you can but your license the day you go hunting. I always buy mine early so have never actually looked for it in the WI regs...

Thanks for the advice. We went up last weekend and managed to get a small button buck on the ground. Really wanted to head up again this weekend but I did see the guns would be going off again and I just don't feel like bow hunting when the guns are going off. Looks like the next chance will be in two weeks. Guessing tactics will need to change somewhat for such late season hunting. Any last gasp late season tips?
