Hawg
My new Pro 4 runs like a clock BUT this oil thing has me concerned. The way I read the manual you have to lay it down only one way, Spark plug/Tank up. I can't do this and close my tonneau cover on my pick up because the handles are too tall! Even a lawn mower can be laid on one side or the other to prevent oil leaking thru the carb, have any of you other owners tried to lay it on it on one side or the other? Might have to return this for a Honda with the enclosed oil.
BartmanMN
For my Strikelite I prop it at an angle between my shack and the side of the truck. The handle sits in one of the bed grooves. This is how I keep the oil issue at bay for mine without it being straight up and down.
Tipupdown
I have a Pro 4 also, i figured that out the hard way.. Mine doesn't seem to leak though if i have it laying flat as long as the filter is facing up or that "black box" on the oneside..
Hawg
Tipupdown, wouldn't the oil run out the muffler then? I'm wondering if I could prop the motor end up as far as I could with the tonneau cover on and lay it on the filter up side if that would do it. The other option is build a small box to hold just the head in an upright position. With that collar system and just a pin to hold on the drill on it would be super simple to just take it apart. An auger in the back of an open pick up box just screams STEAL ME. The upside is that I might not stop at the bar on the way home.
Sand Burr
Lay your auger spark plug up on the ice or whenever you can, but you can travel with it in your pick-up Carburetor up.
Hawg
The folks at Jiffy said the oil would run out the muffler. Do you have one and it works to lay it down carb up like Tipupdown also said? It starts easy like this too? Nothing makes a longer lasting and messier mess than oil. rich4walleyes
You can store the Pro 4 with either the spark plug facing up or the carb side facing up. Both ways are ok and will not leak oil.

They're made flatter to get in the corner of your shack.
Hawg
That's three owners saying it works so I'm convinced, thanks for the responses guys.
L_Cappo
i take mine apart and put the head in a crate.it fits better that way in my tahoe
BassKnuckles
i take mine apart and put the head in a crate.it fits better that way in my tahoe I was just going to say the same thing minus the Tahoe part. The auger bit disconnects easily with no tools so that would seem to be the best option for you.
tisosy11
I purchased a new Jiffy Pro 4 last spring and fired it up for the first time last week. I was getting a propane smell like there was a leak. Do you have to disconnect the hose from the tank between uses?Maybe it was a bad one pounder too as it looked like an older unit. BartmanMN
I thought they modified the connection nut on the Pro4's last year. You may want to check with Jiffy on the new Brass nut if another tank does the same.

[/quote Double check your aluminum fuel hose from your regulator. If you have the old style, there may be a small crack due to vibrations. Mine did that to me out on the ice and I called Jiffy, they sent me a new line. Pretty easy to replace.
lispeej
About the oil leaking. I have had mine since the Pro4 came out. I never noticed any oil leaks. As already said....I lay it down with spark plug facing up, black box up, or upright. I actually store it upright when not being used. tisosy11
Jiffy recommends removing the propane tank when not in use. Just an FYI...
