My Red Bellied WP is still hanging around so I put up some suet for him and the Nuthatches. I have a had a few Hairys and Downeys come by but no Pilated yet.

Pretty lucky here. I have been feeding them for many years. Neighbors also so they eat good. :>)

I hope it's OK with eyeguy for me to post this picture on his thread. I thought it may be better to post on a similar thread than to start a new one. If not I will delete.

I got a picture of this Pileated Woodpecker yesterday from the suet feeder on my deck. Behind my house is a slough that drains into Lake Minnetonka. When we moved here I never really considered the benefits of seeing so much wildlife from our deck and back patio. I love seeing all the critters.

I think I am going to have to move my suet to a location with more sunlight. Not sure if I even have a spot like that in my yard at this time of the year. Great colors on the Red-belied!!

That male red-bellied is a beaut, very sharp! Blackdog the pose on that female pileated is the same as the first one we saw here a few years back. Due to the size relative to the hanging suet feeder, at first I thought it was a crow. When it jumped off and made huge hunks of bark fly from the ash tree, I changed my mind.

thx, I put this board up and the suet holder this summer. Sun hits it good. Hopefully I'll get a good pilliated shot on it. They mainly hit the other 2. like clockwork they show up around 3 almost daily.

The boards a good idea, would keep all the tid bits from falling on the ground, that my dogs pick up every time there out. My only problem is the grey squirles, they will eat me out of house and home if I put store bought suet cakes on a tree. I buy straight suet from the butcher and they leave it alone.
