when you put it in reverse it like locks up and kills the motor

i have a few people tell what they think

any body experience this or heard of it before kind of a weird deal

Yes, often it is the torque converter not unlocking. There is a service bulletin on this very subject.

A friend of mine had this very same problem aboot 2 weeks ago. Like Mac said, it was the torque converter.

Before tearing in to the tranny, try unplugging the rear diff speed sensor, and see if it still stalls out, if not, replace the instrument cluster. If it does, then try unplugging the TR sensor (aka MLP/ Neutral Safety switch) on the drivers side of the tranny, see if it still stalls, if it still stalls, then I agree, TC. If it does not stall, replace the TR sensor.
