Maxxed Out
People have been asking what the count is on Lac qui parle, so here's the update. There are 50K honkers and 10K mallards. Based on what we saw the last weekend I would say there are at lease 20K mallards. Unbelievable weekend out there....90 honkers on Friday and Saturday. GooBack
20K?Are you counting every duck in a 250 mile radius?Always honest with the customers!
basssmasher*
Goo, I wouldn't questions maxxed's numbers at all. They are a top notch service and work VERY HARD to scout. I have never hunted with them so you can't call me some biased customer, but I am By LQP a lot , especially fishing, and I too have seen a ton of birds.. The goose count will rise this wknd when the cold front pushes through, and I expect to see more mallards as well.

Andrew Erickson
I definitely believe it. I bowhunt out in milan and have seen the birds he is talking about. It is unbelieavable.
mallardnwalleye
I would believe there are more birds than that. Bird counts don't count all the birds in the fields. I remember one November (1996) or 97 there were 200,000 or 400,000 ?out on Marsh roosting on the ice. There were geese and ducks going back and forth in every direction at all times. It was like Canada. When it loads up lax qui parle and big stone cty are incredible.

weld1
Even 20k mallard is not abnormal in and around the refuge!! I have sat out there all day at times and watch flocks of thousands and thousands of mallards flying all day long!
Tmax4
They count the refuge when there is the least chance birds are in the field. Either early morning on a sunny calm ice up. Or mid day. I live just off the lake and see the flight everyday, id agree there was every bit of 10k mallards but not 20k. Either way now that the seasons closed it doesnt matter! Saw alot of migrating geese move in thursday through sunday so I would guess the 50k goose count will be 60k+.
