Weigh These Deer

Recommended Posts

I think we forget to take into account our overall health, state of wellness, and level of rest when we happen to drag our deer.

I know I've had numerous times when I simply cannot drag a deer for any meaningful distance, only to have someone else, no bigger than me, drag it with relative ease.

Other times I've dragged deer easily, when I'm well rested, feeling strong, and I'm full of energy. Deer hunting can sap your strength very quickly, and many of us refuse to believe we're tired, or worn out at all. We just won't quit. I'm truly grateful to have my oldest son along with me most times now. He's 6'2" and strong as an ox.

It's surprising how much smaller a deer gets after a good night of sleep, plenty of hydration, and with plenty of good nutritious food in the furnace. wink

Another issue to keep in mind is "dead weight". Dead weight is noticeably heavier than live weight. Don't ask me why. The old timers, who know what I'm talking about will concur.

Eat a good healthy breakfast, get plenty of sleep, and drink lots of water! smile You'll be surprised, and perhaps a little disappointed at the average size of your deer. Then again, if you can toss them over your shoulders, and walk them out to the truck, you might wanna wait for a little bigger deer! laugh
