DTro
I can’t quite decide what type of chair(s) I want to buy. The camping style chair seems to be the best choice but in order to get a decent one it seems you have to spend $30 and they also start getting a bit heavy for the good ones. Those old style fold up weave chairs are light and pretty comfy. Do they still make them? I’ve even considered fold up card table chairs. They lay nice and flat, metal so they can take some abuse, surprisingly light, and under $20.I tried those small fold up ones similar to the clam chairs, but I’m not sure how I would feel about em after 4-5hrs of sitting. MN BassFisher
I have a 2-3 man popup that I've used for the last 2 seasons. I usually just sit on my fishing bucket with rods attached or I use those ice fishing/hunting chairs that have the 3 legs. Eskimo makes one, FF has one, and Gander has a couple. They are usually anywhere from $15-25 and are nice and light and pack up to fit in the sled. They have more back support than a bucket and I would think they would suit you well. Goodluck with hub this year - I really like mine in almost all situations!
BronzeBrother
I use the same chairs that you would bring to a high school football game. They work just fine. And they still fold up enough for the sled for early ice... I have the Eskimo chair and your concerns about sitting in that type of 3 point chair are spot on. I can manage about an hour in those before it gets uncomfortable. So I just get the regular Wallyworld folding chairs.
MNCPRGUY
I went with the Clam chairs with the cooler underneath. I haven't spent a full day on them yet, but my initial thought is that I like the way you sit forward on them. I thought about using my camp/soccer chairs but there is a huge difference between lounging around a campfire and peering down an ice hole. Whether you are site fishing or landing a fish, you're going to want something that isn't a lot of work to get out of. The Clam chairs feel solic and have a smaller footprrint on the ice than my camp chairs as well.
