Generators & Microwaves

If you are shopping for a microwave that will be powered by a generator make sure you look at the wattage input not output. We had a customer today who was upset that his 1000 watt Honda could not run the 900 watt microwave he bought a few days ago. When he tried it out popping popcorn the generator would quit.

The rating on the microwave is its power OUTPUT, which is much lower than the INPUT required to produce it!

I checked 3 small microwaves at our store.

Output--- Input

700W --- 1000W

900W --- 1350W

1000W --- 1500W

He got his money back but never grasped the difference between the power output and the amount of power required to produce it. He was heading to another store to buy a different brand. He was sure that would solve the problem.
