Patterning question

Cove

Recommended Posts

I patterned the Federal Premium Heavyweight High Velocity Turkey Load in 3 inch 1 5/8 oz 7 shot and it was super, so I have gotten my Spring and Fall 2012 turkeys with it. The 7's supposedly are similar to lead #5.

I got some #6 for the purpose of follow up shots at longer range. At 5 bucks a pop I would like to avoid patterning again, though not a bit deal. More the time involved. My question is: Can I expect the 6's to pattern well, and similar to the 7's since it is the same powder, wad etc?

Stick with the 7s if that's what you've patterned. They actually hit more like #4 lead as they have a higher density than the hevi shot, higher velocity and smaller surface area. Should be good to at least 40 yards as long as your pattern holds together.
