Bullet in a handle

Recommended Posts

Hey Fellas,

I'm making a rod for my cousin as a xmas present an dhe's a big deer hunter. I wanted to carve a slit in the wooden handle, put a rifle bullet in it slit and fill it with epoxy?

Will this work? and any tips on how to fill the slit so it stays even with the handle? Thanks!

I would figure to fill it with some sort of true hardening epoxy. Like the 5 minute stuff that will truly harden. Thread epoxy won't truly harden. But if this is for show you are going to need to try to keep the bubbles to a minimum. Heat may help them release.

Build up a little over the level of the handle sand smooth with progressively finer sandpaper. They maybe a coat of thread epoxy, not sure how well the epoxy will hold up to wood varnish.

I put the brass end of a shotgun shell into the butt of the grip. Basically took a spent casing, cut the brass portion off and adhered it to the butt. Turned out well and was easy. If you want the full casing, id do more like upnorth says. Id also think about a reload with no powder and a spent primer if any.

maybe epoxy bar pour type of rezin. Im not sure I would utilize 5mm epoxy if water can get to it. I dont think its waterproof. maybe im wrong Im thinking you might have to dip it after the bullet is set in place and secured in like envirotex type epoxy , cool idea though I like it
