Anyone using braided line on reels?

I am not a big fan of braids for ice fishing. Freezing up is an issue as you noted, and those lines are SOOOOO visible under water, I think a flouro leader is a must.

I have one ice reel with braid on it, it has fireline crystal and a flouro leader, and it doesn't get used very much .... only when I'm inside the shelter.

I'm heading to Canada this winter on a walleye trip and from what I have been reading guys use braid with a fluoro or mono leader and of course a swivel. Lot's of hole hopping if weather permits. So yes.. I am also worried about ice up. One of the guides up there said he primarily uses Nanofill. Expensive $$$ tho

As said superlines can be a hassle outside. I have tried the suffix ice braid and thats about the best i have found for outside. Inside I love superlines with a mono shocker leader. I connect with a good swivel. I love #2 suffix ice for deep crappie fishing in the winter.

The braided lines will also emit small air bubbles when dropped into the water, that you often can see on your flasher. While holding air, the line also sinks slower. My $0.02.

Last year I decided to rob the nanofil line from my open water reel for a new ice reel that needed line and I found it to work out pretty well for my needs. I spend 80% of my time hole hopping or just babysitting one or two holes outside. I havent had any issues with freeze up with the nano fill but I did with the fireline.

Used it until I really started hole hopping. Works good indoors. Freezes up outdoors like everyone said . Now I use Berkeley 100% fluorocarbon. 2 pound on panfish rods and 4 & 6 pound on walleye rods.that. worked great last year
