8-Ball
My boat has a 31 gal tank. Currently it shows a tad less than a 1/4 full. Do I need to put any more gas in it before I add stabil and put her to bed for the winter, or do I have enough in there? In the past, it has always been close to full going into winter, so this is a first for me.. Thx, 8-Ball.
delcecchi
It used to be recommended to fill it in the fall. Nowdays with reformulated gasoline it seems to be somewhat controversial. At least there seem to be differences of opinion as to the fill it in the fall vrs fill it in the spring with fresh gas. Look around, there has been at least one thread on this subject in this forum recently.
BartmanMN
I fill mine up. I look at is as one less thing to pay for come open water season. I am watching the gas prices closely as they are dropping right now, waiting for the best time to fill the 38 gallon tank up. Always feels good to save a couple bucks. Raider4ever
Fill it up now. You will have a tankful of "free gas" in the spring. Yeah you paid for it, but you're not gonna remember that.
delcecchi
I personally would only fill up now if it was non-oxy. That E10 stuff can get nasty over the winter.
Kyhl
Agreed on the E10. I was reading through the manual last weekend, procrastinating winterizing my 2004 Merc 4S. The manual stated, although it is fine to run E10, that the tank should be siphoned before storage and the gas run out of the motor because E10 will become acidic and eat away at hoses. Paraphrasing my manual from 2004.There is a whole industry of products invented to counter this problem, Stabil and such, why not just use non-oxy and skip the suppliments. BartmanMN
I fill with Non Oxy, but I also add Marine stabil. Do I need to? maybe not, but I have a big jug, so better safe than sorry.
Raider4ever
Oh yeah, ONLY use non-oxy for over-winter. Using Oxy gas even with Stabil, Seafoam, Startron, etc. for over-winter is a gamble.

Kyhl
Fear, uncertainty, and doubt. The strongest tools of marketing firms. And yes, I fall for it too. Better to be safe than sorry so I buy the stabil and add it even if it might not be needed.
