hornady sst problem

Recommended Posts

OK, first and foremost I want to say that I have been using hornady sst slugs for the last 5 years or so. I loved their accuracy and have shotlots of deer with them. I used them in my winchester 1300 pump. Nowever, some times they seem to stick in the chamber and I have to really reef on the pump to get it to eject. I always thought it was the gun. Fast forward to today. I'm shooting a new slug barrel on my beretta al 390, the guy Ibought it from said to use remington premiers with accutip. I wanted to see how the hornady's shot also. So I went out and had 2 boxes of each. . To make a long story short, I did not properly put together my gas piston so it would not eject the shell and I had to open the bolt by hand. While practicing, I noticed the sst's sticking in this gun also. Anybody else ever had this problem?

On a side note. This barrel did like the remingtons better. I also noticed the recoil on the sst's was noticeably greater, even on a bench those things bark. After being a true sst fan for so long, I will admit Iwas very impressed with the rems and will now shoot those slugs.

That's what Iam thinking also. I always though it was the gun, but Inever have any problems with the pump except those shells. I was pretty surprised to see it happening in the beretta also. I have been using the beretta the last couple of years and have had no issues, Isuppose it ejects them fine with the recoil when the gas operation is working like it should. Funny Ican't find any other information on it.
