changing auger lower unit

I want to go from a 10" auger to a 7-8" auger. Would I be able to use the smaller lower unit on my powerhead that was with the 10"? It is a strikemaster chipper. I know that I cannot use a brand with a different rotation (I learned that the hard way when I switched lower units on my two augers and the strikemaster rotated one way and my Jiffy rotated the other). If I could use the smaller lower unit, would I have to stay with a chipper, or would I be able to go with the lazer model?

With using portables primarily, I'm tired of having such a HUGE hole taking up the space.

Just change the auger no need to change anything else, just make sure the new augers made for a powerhead, hand augers arent make for use on a powerhead other than a Nils...

D Rock in New Brighton sells just the lower half for strikemasters. I bought an 8 inch last year and couldn't be happier.

About 5 years ago I put an 8" Lazer on a Mag III powerhead that was pushing 20 years old. The original auger was a chipper style blade. Still run it to this day with no issues what so ever.
