stall problem

Recommended Posts

I have a 93 escort wagon and when you take a right turn to fast or go around a right hand curve it wants to stall/kill. If you push the clutch in and wait until the motor dies out completely and then let the clutch out it starts right back up.It does not do it when you take left turns.

The guy I got it from installed a new fuel pump and the gasket was bad so I replaced it so it doesnt leak any more. so I dont think thats it.

It also seems to do it more frequently as the gas tank gets empty.

Could it be the fuel shut off switch?

The car was hit on that side hard enough to cave in the door and break the top of the strut mount free so I welded it back up solid.

I know that I should keep the tank full and not take right turns. grin

Hook a fuel pressure gauge up to it, if it drops out on your turns, then I would say something in the pick up tube/screen in the tank. Otherwise start wiggling wires and harnesses under the hood, and dash, make sure the battery isnt hitting the hood as well, I have ran into that before

I checked all the wires and wiggled the cr@p out of them and it didnt make a difference as a matter of fact it got worse as I drove to town even making a slight turn to the right caused it to kill. after I filled the tank It hasn'e done it. My guess is that the pick up tube is sucking a little air when I turn that direction when the tank is lower than half tank. so once I get most of this tank burned up I will pull the fuel pump and check that. it is only 6 months old and I'm guessing the guy that I got it from bent when he installed it.

Thanks for all your trouble shooting ideas
