I like to troll reefs, points, flats saddles. Sometime the bite is best on the weed edges, (inside or outside). Other times rocks or sand will kick out fish. If you pop fish in the same spot drop the trolling motor and cast cranks or swim bigger profile jigs back. These fish are generally aggressive and will crush the bait.

Don't over look current areas either even if they are swampy. The frogs can be a prime forage this time of year as well.

If you can find weeds in shallow water (say 4-8 feet of water) that are knocked down enough that you can troll over or through them, being over the weeds can by dynamite. A lot of times the weeds are too thick or come too close to the surface, and then you're stuck to the inside or outside edge. Do not overlook the inside edge no matter how shallow it is, it can also be dynamite.

Trolling is a great way to cover water and find fish. If you find fish concentrated in a small area then casting jigs or cranks, or slip bobbering, can be really effective. I usually do not stop trolling, but I will shorten up my trolling passes and make a lot more passes through a hot area.
