Kylersk
Heading up to that area in October and would like to find a place to camp. One RV and one Travel Trailer. We wont be fishing, just hanging out and relaxing. Which do you prefer and why? Thanks in advance.

Ice_Fishin07
If you want to just relax and be away from most of the crowd, go to maple grove camp in Father hennepin, that way you are still still close to lake instead of cross the busy highway. I have never been to kathio. My 2cents.
Stick in Mud
My limited experience has favored Kathio because it was a bit quieter...but not a large sample size. I suspect that October will be a relatively quiet and peaceful time no matter where you go....most of the roudy folks should be busy watching football games by then. Wish-I-Were-Fishn
Kathio all the way. If you time it right, the leaves are breath taking! Who needs the lake blowing cold air at you when you just want to camp anyway?
Stick in Mud
Lol. Good point....a north wind can make Father Hennepin a chilly place.
woodsmanmn
I've been to both. Vote is for Kathio. Seems more remote and out of the way.
Wish-I-Were-Fishn
I'm hoping to get to both this weekend. Quick, easy trip. Just me and my bike to ride the trails. Sleeping in my SUV so I can park hop with no setup time
Wish-I-Were-Fishn
Did Father Hennepin last night and I'm typing this while enjoying a nice campfire at Kathio As soon as the fire burns to coals, I will be breaking out the hot dogs. Father Hennepin was nicer then I thought it would be. I had the Maple Grove area almost to myself since it was a Thursday night. It was a beautiful night and was very quite. If you go there, I would avoid the Lakeview sites. Unless you enjoy being right on top of your neighbor. As far as Kathio goes, I again chose the more primitive campground away from the crowd. Pretty quite here too, except it's now Friday night so there are more people up north. The camp I'm in does not have showers, but you can drive to other area and use the ones there. Both campgrounds at Father Hennepin have showers. Had a fantastic, huge breakfast in Isle at the Corner Cafe, or something like that. It's the red building a couple blocks away from the park on the west side of the road. Wherever you go, you will enjoy it. I lucked out with the leaves as they are near peak up here now. Enjoy.
