Hankook tires

Recommended Posts

I think the brand has been bought out (probably China) and now sells much lesser quality tires.

They used to be an elite brand, now they are installed OEM on many vehicles and trucks (semi included, I have 8 on the trailer behind me).

I also have them on my new Dodge Journey, and after 19,000 miles they are almost to the point we'll need to replace them before this winter. I am not happy with it. I was expecting at least 30k or 40k being a OEM tire, but it was also offered as the cheapest tire option for the whole vehicle model. Keep in mind this is my wife's car, she drives like a grandma (because she is... grin )

I would stay away from them, I am the least impressed.

The last set of good tires I had on my Ram 2500 were Pirelli Scorpion, they lasted almost 60,000 miles with no issues.

I had a set of Hankook RF10's, Dynapro ATM, on my '04 F150 for the 3rd set of tires. Loved them. Had 45k on those tires when I sold it and still had plenty left. Those were great tires in the snow, pulled out many Chevy's out of the ditch with them. I currently have a set of Hankooks on my wifes Escape, 30k miles on them and I am sure another 30k more left to go on them. I also have a set of Hankooks on my Chevy Dually and there are holding up great after 10k miles. If you are in the North or West metro, check out the shop in Corcoran. Good prices and customer service. Can be in and out in 45 minutes and no need for appointment, because they do not take them.

I have to agree that the Hankook tires that some of the manufacturers have on their new cars are junk. My F150 came new with some Hankooks from the factory and they were the worst tires I have ever had on a vehicle. After a set of junk Coopers on the F150, thought I would try Hankooks again for the 3rd set and it worked out.

I got the dynapros on my F150. Good tire for the price. Hard to find in my size though(265/75r17), everywhere I looked in the metro and dealerships said they were on "National Backorder" whatever that means. Found a guy who does tires about 2 miles from my house that got them and put them on for $850 out the door. Little bit more noise from them now that I got about 30k on them but I can deal with it, they still got at least 15k more to go if not 20k.

I'm a firm believer with you get what you pay for in tires. I have to believe the low-grade factory tires on all vehicles are junk. I had a set of Generals from the factory on my Chevy and they just barely lasted 25k. Now on my 2nd set of Firestone Destination AT's and loving them. My last set lasted me 80k and and could have easily gotten another 10-15k out of them but ran over something that put a 1 inch diameter puncture directly in the middle of the tread and was unable to patch. Figured it wasn't worth just getting a single tire so threw a whole set on. This new set has 35k and look like the day they rolled out of Tires Plus. Yes I payed quite a bit more for them, but they are lasting my 3+ times longer, so they are paying for themselves.

BTW, thanks again to the MN Nat. Guard guy that stopped and helped alert traffic while I was changing the back left tire on the side of HWY 10 coming back from Park Rapids, Memorial Day weekend last year. Scary stuff when bumper to bumper cars are flying by at 70+ MPH within 2ft of you.
