Analog vs Digital

I’m curious to hear people’s thoughts on this. The trend of new ice sonar seems to be going the way of digital which gives the mfg a lot of options for adding cool bells and whistles. But it seems the tradeoff is dealing with lots of bugs and software updates.

Sometimes “old school” means reliability but also loses the cool factor.

We have some options on one side that are totally digital/lcd, some hybrids in the middle and then the totally analog/mechanical on the other side.

Will one technology prove to be a winner, or will it be decades more of red vs blue with an independent thrown in here or there?

Red vs Blue with an independant thrown in...

Nothing will ever corner the market. No matter how cool, andvanced, or awesome digital gets - there will be a huge place for flashers...

At the end of the day they mark fish, your bait, and the relationship between the two...

Having said that and after fishing a LX-7 last winter, it is rather exciting to see the envelope pushed with new products/technology.

Anything new has bugs but they will thin out...

Innovation will prevail as it will drive market demand. Once someone comes up with an integrated slip bobber that syncs via bluetooth to the depth finder and auto-adjusts jig depth accordingly I will ditch my lead bomb in a heartbeat. wink

Because I am a tech gadget junkie I dig expensive informative products that tend to do more then most will need. Adjusting to software flaws is always going to be an issue, I dont have a problem with that. With a simple minded person a mechanical flasher is more then enough. It does the job and is generally reliable.

I have seen reviews of people who cant adjust or assimilate to the latest and greatest stuff. Hearing guys turn in their LX-7's back for a trusty old FL8 and your thinking what went wrong there?

To a price point, I think once the new digital flashers & gadgets become more affordable that will eventually phase out outdated products to where an old school may be forced to adapt.
