rmrakt
Hello,A newbee at clutching in the process of replacing the primary clutch on my kid's 1980 Kawasaki 340 Drifter. Pulled the old one off with puller but am wondering what the correct procedure is for pressing on the new one? Do I simply use the bolt/washer to press on the complete assembly to the tapered shaft.....? Or do I bolt on the shaft portion of the clutch assembly first then add the face plates/roller/spring assembly afterwards? Just want to make sure I don't crack the outer faceplate of the new clutch when torquing the thing on. Also what's the trick of holding the dang thing when wrenching? Thanks in advance for the help here!
jkrash
Just bolt the whole clutch on.They do make a strap wrench to hold the clutch. I just use a screw driver or socket extension and place it on the clutch and belly pan some where to hold it while you tighten
rmrakt
jkrash,Thanks for the response. Will give it a try tonight. I was thinking of firing up the air compressor/impact wrench and to try to press it on with the bolt/washer too...Older style clutch with nothing to pry on.Have a great day! Gissert
rmrakt- Be careful with air/impact type tools on you primary clutch shafts. That force will be transmitted into your crank seals, and could possibly cause them to develop an air leak.
