Caliper Lake

Is anyone familiar with this lake? We are going camping up there in late July and wondering how fishing has been and if anyone has any pointers for walleyes and crappie?

I've stayed at the Park and fished Caliper several times usually spending a couple days while on the way to somewhere else. Caliper can have lockjaw and that can make for some long days. Overall we did well on northerns and crappies. Crappies were caught in early June. Lake of the Woods is just down the road and has great walleye fishing. Be careful on the water because the lake has some rocky suprises.

We have fished Caliper a few time in the winter. IF you an find the crappies, they are dandies. There are plenty of hammer handle northerns too.

use leeches and fish the weeds, walleyes will be in 6' of water lots

Thanks for the info guys. I have fished the lake several times but haven't really "found" the eyes. Hard to find a depth map for the lake, but I know it doesn't get mush deaper than 13-14 feet at most.

We hav done ok in traditional areas, break and around islands. Haven't tried leaches though!

We drive by that lake a couple times a year and always wonder about it....had heard about the crappies and pike but never heard much about the walleyes...

I have found that leeches and lindys on shallow weedy lakes like Caliper are hands down the best method. It should definitely improve your success. Let us know if it helps.
