Snap Swivels

Depends on the lure. Usually with crankbaits of medium or large size using a snap swivel is fine. Spinners and spinnerbaits are fine too. A lot of jerkbaits work well. It's the other lures and small lures that often lose action. As exception is certain popper frogs. a swivel will pull the nose down some and make them have a louder pop and some even will walk the dog a bit. But cheap popper frogs tend to just sink with one on.

This is not scientific by any means, but when fishing crank baits of the same color, line, rod, etc... I have found the the lure that was attached with a ball bearing swivel caught more fish than the same lure directly tied to the lure.

I'm not sure, but in some cases a swivel may increase the action of the lure. Even if it was a very subtle difference.

We noticed that was the only difference when one was catching and one wasn't. We were trolling the lures at the time and they were #5 shad raps.

I have found that on some lures that they actually due effect the motion of the lure for me, Flicker shads for one, don't run for me as true with a swivel as they do direct tied to the line. Just one Man's observation.

I like them and enjoy using them. Havent noticed any change, although I have heard about it. I also use a flouroleader or sometimes a steel leader. But the snaps help with time so no knots.

I tend to believe snap swivels, especially the larger ones, reduce the lure action. I've seen this time and time again with all other things being equal. Direct tieing is great, but who has time for that?

I like to use the smallest Duolock snaps (no swivel) and remove the split rings from the lures. I think I get more action this way and it's less visible as well. The only lures where I will not remove the split ring are lures like a Deep Husky Jerk or Jointed Shad Rap where the connection point is set lower than the bill.

I will use swivel snaps with spoons as they get all twisted up with just the snap.
