Mounting A Transom Swim Platform/ladder

nthomps66

Question

I have a 2005 Crestliner Fishhawk 1750

Looking to mount a swim platform deal to the back transom and need help.

Can I lag bolt it (wood screw) into the transom assuming there is wood in there or do I need to through-bolt it which would make things much more difficult?

What size screws/bolts would I use?

Do you fill the holes with some type of epoxy or silicone before tightening screw/bolts?

Any help would be much appreciated.

If possible, through bolt it with the largest stainless steel bolts you can fit through the holes that are already drilled through the platform bracket, and use washers and nylon lock nuts on the back side. If it's not possible because there is something in the way on the back side then stainless lag bolts or screws will do.

Always seal the holes with silicone.

I used what came with my Garelick ladder. Stainless bolts, washers, and nylock nuts. Used plenty of silicone to prevent water intrusion into the transom wood.

+1 That is essentially how mine is mounted on my Crestliner.
